Reading a story is just the beginning. This January 26-30, YMCA BC is proud to celebrate Family Literacy Week 2026, a vibrant initiative designed to show that literacy isn't just found in textbooks—it’s woven into the very fabric of our daily lives. From the kitchen table to the local park, we are inviting families across the province to discover the joy of learning together.

To kick off the celebrations, we’ve launched a dedicated suite of free online activities on our Y@HOME+ digital platform. Throughout the week, families can access a curated collection of:
As a special thank you for participating, families can even claim their very own Y Roary bear magnet to commemorate their literacy journey!
This year, we are placing a special focus on how literacy lives in our everyday routines. Preparing for mealtime, for example, is a powerful (and tasty) way for families to bond and learn. Whether it’s practicing math while following a recipe, building vocabulary by making a shopping list, or developing communication skills by sharing stories at the dinner table, every moment is an opportunity to grow.
Literacy is the foundation of a healthy, connected community. Whether you are diving into a new book or whipping up a kid-friendly snack, we want to help your family make lasting memories.
