The Y's English Conversation Classes offer a casual, supportive and friendly atmosphere where you can practice your language skills, meet new people and share experiences about life in Canada. Program overview

YMCA BC's English Conversation Club is a free, weekly program for newcomers who want to practice English in a friendly, supportive environment. Sessions are guided by trained facilitators who help participants build everyday communication skills, strengthen confidence and deepen their understanding of Canadian life and culture.

This program is available in downtown Vancouver.

  • All immigration statuses welcome (except those on visitor visas)

Do I need to register in advance?

Yes. Please email connections@bc.ymca.ca to register before attending your first session.

Who can participate in this program?

Participants must be legally able to work in Canada (i.e. Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees, or individuals in Canada under CUAET measures).

Can I bring my children to the sessions?

This program is designed for adults. If child care support is needed, please contact our team for available options or referrals.

Can I join if I am a Temporary Foreign Worker?

We may also have separate in-person weekly sessions for Temporary Foreign Workers. If you are one, please email connections@bc.ymca.ca to learn more and register.

What level of English do I need to join the Conversation Club?

No specific level is required. The program welcomes all newcomers who want to practice speaking English, regardless of fluency
