As part of YMCA BC's Violence Against Women Intervention & Support Services (VAWISS), Stopping the Violence Outreach is a free and confidential mobile program that provides support to women who have experienced or who are currently experiencing intimate partner violence.
Rooted in the belief that every woman is the expert in her own life, the Stopping the Violence Outreach program meets women where they are at. Whether someone is seeking emotional support, information, advocacy or connection to additional resources, Outreach Services is designed to ensure women do not have to navigate their journey alone; they are supported along the way with empathy, respect, dignity and confidentiality.
YMCA BC’s anti-violence programs offer a continuum of services to help women and children find safety and support when leaving violence in the home. If you or someone you know is looking for safety, these programs can help.

Yes. Outreach workers can help connect you with shelters, housing supports, legal resources, counselling, health care, and other community services. They can also provide advocacy and, when possible, accompany you to appointments.
Is the service confidential?
Yes. Services are confidential and client-centred. Outreach workers will explain any limits to confidentiality, such as situations where there is a concern for immediate safety or where reporting is required by law.

No referral is required. You can contact us directly by phone, text, or email to ask questions, explore options, or request support.
Do I have to leave my relationship or home to receive support?
You do not need to leave your relationship or home to access support. Outreach workers will meet you where you are at and help you explore options, build a safety plan, and make decisions that feel right and safe for you
What kind of situations can Stopping the Violence Outreach help with?
Stopping the Violence Outreach supports self-identifying women and their children who have experienced, are experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing violence. This can include physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, financial, or spiritual abuse, as well as coercive control or stalking.
When you join the YMCA you join more than a gym. You join a community.
