As part of YMCA BC's Violence Against Women Intervention & Support Services (VAWISS), the Housing Outreach is a free and confidential mobile program that provides possible rental subsidies and housing-specific support for women who have experienced intimate partner violence. The program helps women in Kamloops and the surrounding areas.
Housing is often the greatest barrier for survivors. Our approach is client-centered and focuses on meeting individuals where they are, providing free and confidential support to navigate the complex housing market, understand your rights and secure stability for yourself and your children.
YMCA BC’s anti-violence programs offer a continuum of services to help women and children find safety and support when leaving violence in the home. If you or someone you know is looking for safety, these programs can help.

Is the Housing Outreach program confidential?
Yes. All support provided through the Housing Outreach program is confidential. Our team prioritizes your safety, privacy, and comfort throughout the entire process, while explaining any mandatory reporting requirements.
Do I need a referral to access housing support?
No referral is needed. You can call, text, or email us directly. Our Housing Outreach Worker will speak with you about your situation and guide you on the next steps.
Who is eligible for housing support through this program?
This service is available to self-identifying women, with or without children, who have experienced, are currently experiencing, or are at risk of violence. You must live in Kamloops or nearby communities to access this housing support program.
What if I'm unsure whether my situation qualifies as "violence"?
If something doesn't feel safe, respectful, or right, you can reach out. Violence can take many forms beyond physical harm: we encourage you to reach out. We are here to listen and help you explore your options. No judgment, no pressure.
Does the Housing Outreach program provide financial help or rental subsidies?
Yes. The program can assist eligible participants in accessing the Canada-BC Housing Benefit, which provides rental support to those who meet the criteria. We can support you in accessing available rental subsidies, income supports, and community housing resources. We can also advocate on your behalf with partner agencies and landlords.
When you join the YMCA you join more than a gym. You join a community.
