YMCA BC offers free, barrier-reduced programs that support newcomers, youth, and adults as they build their careers, strengthen language skills, explore entrepreneurship and connect with their communities.

Every program is designed to create safety, belonging and equitable access for people navigating employment or settlement in British Columbia.

Starting or rebuilding your career can feel like a big step, especially when the path ahead is not always clear. Delivered using equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging (EDIB) principles, YMCA BC’s Employment Services programs are designed to help you move toward meaningful work with guidance that respects your story.

Whether you are training for a new opportunity, developing job search-skills or preparing to launch your own business, we are here to help you takethe next step with support and clarity.

Note: Our Kamloops Employment Services team are located in the Work BC Employment Service Centres and can be reached at 250-377-3670.

Employment Services are delivered in Kamloops under contract with Open Door Group and WorkBC. This program is funded by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia.

      Every young person carries the potential to build something great, and TradeWorks supports that journey by bridging the gap between entry-level interest and a successful career in the Canadian workforce.         Self Employment for Newcomers
        Moving to a new country brings immense potential, and this Self-Employment Program for Newcomers (SEN) is our way of standing beside you, transforming your business vision into a successful Canadian reality. We combine personalized guidance with essential skills training to ensure your economic journey is one of confidence, impact, and growth.
          English Conversation Club for Newcomers
          We know that practicing English is key to feeling comfortable and connected in your new community. The Y's English Conversation Classes offer a casual, supportive and friendly atmosphere where you can practice your language skills, meet new people and share experiences about life in Canada.             Connect2Work for Newcomers
            At YMCA BC, we believe every newcomer youth deserves a strong start to their career journey in Canada. Connect2Work program is dedicated to bridging the gap between settlement and employment, offering the essential skills, coaching and connections you need to confidently build your future in the local job market.
              Explore Child Care as a Career
              At YMCA BC, we believe that meaningful integration begins with confidence and clarity. This Childcare Career Exploration Path program offers newcomers an encouraging space to explore the various pathways to working in child care pathways in Canada, understand required credentials, and learn what it takes to thrive in the child care sector.
                Wellness Connection for Newcomers
                Wellness is a choice that involves daily habits and lifestyle decisions! Wellness Connection welcomes newcomers into a friendly and supportive space that promotes good health and well-being. The programs alternate to explore various aspects of wellness while practicing English and meeting new friends. Our cohorts include wellness through movement, nutrition and self-awareness. It’s a rewarding way to connect to your path to wellness and your integration into your new community.
                  Prepare for the Canadian Citizenship Test
                  Becoming a Canadian citizen is a significant milestone, and we are here to ensure you approach the final step with confidence and preparedness. Our support sessions help demystify the process and guide you through the materials, transforming the "Discover Canada Study Guide" into manageable, memorable knowledge.
