
Minds in Motion® is a gentle fitness and social engagement program designed for people living with early-stage dementia and their care partners. Offered in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of B.C., each session is designed to build confidence, connection, and joy.
Minds in Motion® offers a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere for people living with early-stage dementia and their care partners. It is a space to connect, move gently, and share moments of joy without judgment, ensuring that you feel supported, heard, and welcomed.
At the Y, we envision a community where everyone belongs.
Gentle exercises are followed by social activities designed to be enjoyed in pairs. Each session includes 45 minutes of exercise led by a certified fitness instructor, followed by social activities, games, and creative engagement that build confidence, connection, and joy. Care partners must attend.
This program is currently offered at select YMCA locations in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of BC.

Is this program only for YMCA members?
No. The program is open to the wider community. A YMCA BC membership is not required.
Do I need to be physically active to join?
No. Sessions are designed to be safe and accessible for all ability levels. Exercises can be done seated or standing.
What happens during a Minds in Motion� session?
Each session includes 45 minutes of gentle exercise followed by social activities, games, and opportunities for connection. Activities support both the person living with dementia and their care partner.
Why do care partners need to attend?
Minds in Motion� is built around shared experiences that strengthen connection and support. Care partners play an important role in engagement, safety, and emotional support throughout the program.
Can we join mid-session?
Yes. The program is ongoing, and participants can join at any point. Fees are pro-rated based on when you start.
