It was a day like no other—a morning when history was written in capes, masks, and the determined footsteps of thousands of young heroes. On Wednesday, May 28th, the YMCA BC Kids Walk 2025, presented by Odlum Brown, officially made its mark on the world stage by setting a new World Record for the most children walking in superhero costumes, all while raising vital funds so that other children and youth can access valuable YMCA programming. These programs include Child Care, Camp, Swim Lessons, Sports Leagues and membership to YMCA Health, Fitness and Aquatics centres.

This year’s event raised close to $61,000 in funding!

YMCA BC Kids Walk Highlights:

‍

• Hosted at 150 YMCA BC Child Care programs around the province
• Over 4.3K kids and 600 child care staff participated in the walk
• Steps were taken in many communities across the province including Greater Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Sunshine Coast, Kamloops, Prince George, Vanderhoof, Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, Dawson Creek, and Fort St John

In addition to raising funds, this annual event highlights the importance of activity and movement for children and youth.

It was a day where our Y kids, Child Care teams and Y-Rex, the unofficial Y mascot, came together, donned superhero masks & capes and walked to ensure financial barriers do not limit a child’s ability to access life-enhancing YMCA programs and reach their full potential.

Every May, YMCA child care participants and staff walk together for the annual YMCA BC Kids Walk presented by Odlum Brown— proving that our youngest "heroes" can make a big impact when we come together.

Over 4,000 children across BC take part in this superhero fundraiser, raising vital funds so children and families can access YMCA child care, camps, and swim lessons. In 2025, we even set a World Record for the largest superhero walk.

Here at YMCA BC, we ignite belonging by enabling everyone in our communities to have equitable access to healthier outcomes. The YMCA BC Kids Walk presented by Odlum Brown is just one way we are carrying out this purpose. We are immensely proud of our Y Kids for showing us that when we stand together, we can achieve the impossible.
